“Does it make sense to pray for guidance about the future if we are not obeying in the thing that lies before us today? How many momentous events in Scripture depended on one person’s seemingly small act of obedience! Rest assured: Do what God tells you to do now, and, depend upon it, you will be shown what to do next.”
Before Jesus told you to carry your cross (cf. Matt. 16:24-26), He already predicted that He would carry His (v. 21)––established “before the foundation of the world (Rev. 13:8)”. To accept Christ without expecting hardship is wrong, but to gain Christ and focusing on hardship is neither correct. Jesus should receive the supreme glory, not your sufferings!
